Eat, Play and Relax at Ribayon Attack, Nihonbashi

Ping Pong Paradise, And Karaoke Too!

We found the perfect after-party spot in town!

Hidden away in the basement floor of the OVOL Nihonbashi Building is an exotically modern Chinese/teppanyaki restaurant with free ping pong and a Moroccan style karaoke room. Although that all sounds a bit clustered, Ribayon Attack somehow manages to balance funky, exotic and childish styles into a very aesthetic and relaxing atmosphere.

With their head chef cooking up authentic Chinese dishes with an open window showcase, I immediately found myself mouth watering. The whole restaurant was decorated in a uniquely fun way, yet managed to have a very moody feel to it. I quickly noticed a large group of customers at the back of the store lounging around on cute colorful cushions; a few smaller groups of businessmen drinking and conversing up the front; a group of friends partying in the karaoke room; happy couples living in their own worlds snuggled up in built-in kotatsu areas, and a few lone wolfs looking majestic as they sipped their drinks at the bar counter.

Looks good, tastes good

After being directed to a built-in kotatsu seat (horigotatsu) and introduced to the menu, the friendly waiters recommended to us their spicy dishes such as the mabo-tofu (spicy tofu and ground beef) and tantanmen (dan-dan noodles). We tried that all (and more) and after eating a number of their dishes, I would personally highly recommend the homemade gyoza dumplings that were super juicy and full of flavor. Their chili chicken wings were also very delicious and very Instagrammably pleasing.

Other enjoyable dishes were the chashu pork slices, yodare chicken and broccoli salad (which was literally a whole broccoli cut in half with a tasty topping!)

There were only two dessert options, almond jelly and sesame balls with ice cream but they were also both very satisfying.

Ribayon Attack somehow manages to balance funky, exotic and childish styles into a very aesthetic and relaxing atmosphere.

Also on the menu were a variety of classic teppan (hot plate) dishes such as okonomiyaki and yakisoba. Their okonomiyaki recipes come specifically from their store in Osaka that specializes in quality okonomiyaki, so you just know that it’s all going to be amazing!

Ping to the pong…

One of Ribayon Attacks’ main attractions is their ping pong table at the back of the store. A friend and I headed over to play after our scrumptious meal and wow, it was fun! They had a bucket full of balls, rackets for all and a scoring board to get competitive if you want to. Ping pong is definitely one of those underrated games you would never think you’d enjoy so much until you start to play. We played first to score to 3, then 5 then 10 and tried to rally (which we failed at, but oh well).

Such an attractive place, you’re left feeling so at home you don’t want to leave.

Bottoms up!

Offering over 150 types of alcohol, and a ping pong table free for all customers to use at any time, Ribayon Attack is the perfect location for pre-parties and after parties. Their recommended drink is an orange wine, which is actually a very unique white wine made using red wine techniques. For any of you non-alcoholics, they also offer a superbly refreshing homemade lemonade and ginger ale.

With over five types of seating styles, including chairs, built-in horigatatsu seats, counter seats, bean bags and cushions, the restaurant offers all types of customers a great place to eat and drink. You can come in big groups, small groups, on a date or all alone to relax and enjoy.

Open for both lunch and dinner, Ribayon Attack is a hidden treasure definitely worth the visit when next in the Nihonbashi area.
