Revive Kitchen Three, Aoyama
I wandered past the Three cosmetics shop in Aoyama, and the modern glass cafe with its courtyard seating caught my eye. I saw a sign out the front reading fresh juices, and through the glass window I could see some freshly baked goods and lots of greenery so I knew it was a place I was going to instantly love. I have now dined at Revive Kitchen Three a handful of times, and not once has the lunch set menu been the same. It is all seasonal and fresh, which means each time I go back I am excited to see what is the next creation the chefs have made up.
The lunch menu always includes a choice of three set meals: usually a salad, a pasta or savory pancakes, all served with a side of some description and priced at ¥1,150. I have to say the highlight dish for me so far has been the cauliflower, dill and nut salad served with the cafe’s homemade rice flour bread, which is absolutely delicious. I also love the changing salad dressings, this week’s being a kiwi mix—very tasty! I do find these lunch specials to be very light, so I would suggest adding a side dish if you’re hungry. I took my husband along once and it was definitely not enough for his appetite, so perhaps it’s more of a ladies’ lunch spot.
The choices of juices and smoothies are unique and interesting, not to mention healthy and full of goodness. We had a juice made of pineapple, cucumber, Japanese mustard spinach, coriander, ginger, mint, lemon and grapes (¥500 for a half size or ¥900 for full size) and also tried a blueberry, goji berry, banana, ginger and yogurt smoothie (¥850). Revive Kitchen also serves simple organic juices, organic teas and coffee.
I’ve also dined at Revive Kitchen for a ladies’ dinner, which was absolutely lovely—it was almost empty in the evening as it closes relatively early (9 p.m.). The menu was so hard to choose from that we decided to order one of everything to try all the different flavors. Every dish was different and well thought out.
There are a few tables outside in the courtyard which works well if you have a stroller or a toddler who likes to have a little bit of an explore. There is also air-conditioned seating and some counter seats, where you can watch the chefs work their magic in the kitchen.
There are always a few choices of freshly baked goods at the counter, and the cafe also does takeaway juices and smoothies for those on the run.
