New York street chic, everything red, and cool vintage looks that will make you look like you’re right off the runway.

It’s almost the end of November and now with shorter days and cooler nights, it’s time to put away your lighter fabrics and tail-end of summer pieces and prepare for crisper, cooler weather. The following eight wardrobe staples, confirmed by designers in Japan and around the world, will take you through this fall-winter season in style! Ready?!

1. It’s All About Red

This season, fashion is going rouge, very rouge. From long trench coats, furry sweaters, sleek trousers and even sexy knee-high boots, red is the color for the season. With hues like scarlet, crimson, burgundy, vermilion, and ruby, the color is not only a standout key trend of the season but also a power look.

Recommended item: H&M Red Wool Coat, ¥15,999.

2. The Classic Madame Fur (or faux fur)

Vintage furs are one of this fall’s key items to have ready to wear! And when the temperatures drop sharply, nothing is better than a warm fur to keep you feeling bundled, cozy, and still runway-ready! Perfect with anything from a classic evening dress to even that casual but stylish look of denim, pumps and a blouse, fur coats are wonderful because they really make anything you are wearing underneath look posh and very runway-worthy. Simple lines, broad shoulders, nothing overly embellished or stylized is the way to go this season.

Recommended item: Uniqlo, Fur Touch-Shoulder Bag, ¥1,990.

3. Winter Florals

We saw florals this spring and then again in summer. Yes, they’re here to stay through fall and winter, too. But these aren’t the pretty flowers or prints that we saw earlier this year. Winter florals are looking a little darker and vampier; seen as rich autumnal tones or darker hues of purple and even burgundies.

Recommended item: Zara, Flower Jacket-Coat, ¥17,990.

4. Wild, Wild West

Yes, it’s back! Western. Everything from native chic prints, cowboy boots, leather and suede vests, chaps, denim-on-denim, and even fireside style campy beadwork, this season get ready to get your western on.

Recommended item: Diesel W-Brogan Jacket, ¥ 41,040.

5. Fishnets

Despite cooler outdoors, fishnets are finding themselves all over Instagram and other SNS feeds as one of the key fashion items for this Fall-Winter season. We see fishnet stocking come and go with different trends and what seems to be IT-girls who make such fashion statements, but be sure to note that fishnets for 2017 are getting a bit of a fine tuning. Wear them with something more feminine and classic to really get that runway look.

Recommended item: H&M Lace Tights, ¥1,299.

6. Venetian Velvets

Across the board, designers are loving velvets for this season’s fashion. As rich and luxe as the velvet fabric itself, so were the bold colors sashaying down runways most recently. But fashionistas be warned, bold colors are the way to go, so ditch those basic blacks and opt in for a bold blue two-piece suit, a soft pink dress even or canary yellow statement-making dress.

Recommended item: Banana Republic, Logan-Fit Strech Velvet Cropped Pants, ¥13,000.

 7. Mad About Plaid

From small check to larger print patterns, this season designers are focusing lots of their attention to plaids and checks. From blazer jackets, scarves and even full two-piece suiting, plaids are a key item you definitely want to add to your fall-winter look.

Recommended item: Zara, Check Headband. ¥1,490.

8. Denim Does It Again

Denim has been a central key look and trend throughout the year of 2017. Fall-winter collections feature denims once again, but in full ensembles. Denim-on-denim is the way to go this season, so don’t be afraid to pair denims of different color or tone. Dress denims up and dress denims down — wear them head to toe and go all in.

Recommended item: Zara, Skinny Denim with Pearl Beads, ¥4,990.

Stay stylish despite the cold! Cheers! Xo
