Josie Pop-Up Shop, Shinjuku
New York-based lingerie brand Natori is bringing its second line, Josie, into Japan for the first time with two pop-up stores, one in Tokyo and one in Osaka. The Tokyo location is inside Destination Tokyo, a boutique on the second basement level of Lumine Est, connected to Shinjuku Station. It's open now through Thursday, September 12.
Natori was founded by Josie Natori, a native Filipino, who left a high-powered job in investment banking to become an entrepreneur. The company celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2007. In addition to being a fashion designer, Josie herself is a board member of the Asian Cultural Council and a member of the CFDA. She makes a point of trying to give back to her homeland, and roughly half of Natori’s products are produced in the Philippines.
Josie is Natori’s second line and targets a slightly younger customer with lingerie, sleepwear and loungewear that combines sexiness with comfort. The pieces are colorful and playful, with definite Asian influences in the designs and motifs. In the U.S. the brand is carried by such upscale department stores as Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus.
The Tokyo and Osaka pop-ups are only open for three weeks, so the next time you’re passing through Shinjuku station you may want to make a lingerie-shopping detour.
