Alice and Olivia’s New Omotesando Flagship

When one considers the cutesy yet quirky personal style of Alice and Olivia's founder and designer Stacey Bendet, it's hard to believe the brand hasn't had much of a presence in Japan until recently. But with the opening of its first freestanding Tokyo store—near the Harajuku end of Omotesando—it's set to become a household name among the city's fashionable denizens.

The two-level store has great visibility on Omotesando, owing to its large, curving front windows. Inside is a riot of mixed colors, patterns and textures, as well as funky furnishings such as leopard-print rugs, retro sofas, shiny gold and glass shelves, and black and white checkerboard floors. A few details like a lime green birdcage and statues of cranes add the finishing touches.

Alice and Olivia’s clothes and accessories have the same whimsical feeling to them, or at least they can when styled together in unexpected ways. On their own, many of the pieces are simple enough to appeal to just about any customer, but always with unexpected or luxurious details to make you feel extra special when wearing them. On the other end of the spectrum are items such as frilly, heart-print skirts and an iPhone case with a (completely impractical) 3D zebra protruding from the back, both of which fit right in amongst the quirky shops of neighboring Harajuku.
