Jazz Soiree Gala: A Night To Benefit Children Battling Cancer

Join this fun evening of cool jazz, great food, and amazing prizes to benefit children battling cancer and other diseases.

This coming October 20, the ballroom of the Tokyo American Club will be transformed into a Jazz Soiree Gala event for children and adults supporting Shine On Kids, a Tokyo-based foundation helping children with cancer and other serious diseases.  

This annual fundraising evening includes party games, a gourmet dinner, a wide array of wine and other drinks, after-dinner dancing, speeches, and so much more. There will also be a raffle and a live auction, with some fantastic prizes to be won.

The evening’s proceeds will go toward Shine On Kids, an organization dedicated to making life better and brighter for sick children in Japan. Originally founded as the Tyler Foundation in 2006 by Kim Forsythe and husband Mark Ferris, Shine On Kids was certified by the Japanese government as an NPO in 2012. The organization was inspired by the smiles and courage of their son Tyler, who spent much of his short life battling leukemia.

After losing Tyler, the couple realized they could take his struggles and their experience and create something positive for families going through what they had endured. Shine On Kids seeks to empower children and families by providing innovative programs to hospitals around the country, including its Facility Dog Program, Japan’s first full-time animal assisted-therapy program at a children’s hospital. It also has the Beads of Courage program, in which children fighting cancer receive colorful beads to commemorate milestones achieved during their treatment.

Attendees of the Jazz Soiree Gala will have the rare opportunity to hear directly from patients from both programs tell about their experiences, along with speeches from founders and program managers.
