What's Happening

Friday, November 3, is Culture Day in Japan and the lineup for this week gives us plenty of opportunities to celebrate Japan and other countries' cultures in various ways — from a world-renowned sake tasting event and a classical concert, to a traditional Yosakoi dance festival and a glimpse of the last scenes of the Tokyo International Film Festival. Enjoy!

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Living on Brazil's Wide Earth—The Hidden Story of Photographer Ohara Haruo

The exhibition follows the works of Ohara Haruo, a Japanese emigrant to Brazil who became a pioneer farmer in the late 1920s. The self-taught photographer shows how immigrants and the wide Brazilian nature interacted with each other back in the difficult days of adapting to a new environment.
