Gone Are The Days When Salad Was Just Plain Greens

Any restaurant can serve salads, but these places take your greens to a whole new level.

As summer days in Tokyo are getting hotter and hotter, what better way to cool down than indulging yourself in some fresh, colorful and healthy salad? If you feel like having a break from your ordinary diet or are looking for a place to get a full portion of a nutritious bowl of goodies, check out the following restaurants where salads are more than just ordinary greens!

Good Life Factory (Minami-Aoyama)

Over the past few years, the number of farm-to-table restaurants in Tokyo has been rapidly increasing. Good Life Factory is the perfect example of this growing healthy trend, which in this case, takes the shape of a salad diner. This restaurant offers nine delicious signature salads (and a number of seasonal creations), each created to tackle a certain health condition or cater to your preferences. For instance, if you’re in need of a quick internal cleansing, opt for their Detox Caesar (¥980). If you want the perfect skin, the Glowing Skin (¥1,180) salad will sure do wonders. Need a dose of energy? Their Power Charge quinoa mix (¥1,820) or Iron Girl green salad (¥1,580) might be just what you need. Of course, you can also customize your own delicious bowl, too!

In addition to their wonderful salads, you can also try delicious hummus (¥300), pita sand (¥550/half) or tapas (from ¥300). When it comes to drinks, Good Life Factory offers healthy refreshments that perfectly match your meal — including the popular Beauty Mix juice (¥500 for small size), an incredibly tasty green mix with a touch of kale that will instantly make you feel fresh.

If you are not satisfied with their standard menu (which includes our absolutely favorite Cal-Mex, ¥1,260, and The Hipster, ¥1,330), you can let your imagination flow and customize your own salad, and even choose vegan or gluten-free options.

This fresh fast food is also an English-friendly one, where the staff are fully bilingual and the menu is available in English. The restaurant has a fun, laid-back atmosphere and you’ll even spot a few people concentrating on work or simply reading a book. If you don’t have time to sit down and enjoy your salad, however, they also do take outs and delivery — and offer a new app through which you can order your goodies in advance to cut the line!

Their menu is perfectly suited for vegans, gluten-free dieters and athletes since there are plenty of high-protein dishes and low-calorie options to choose from — and they are really delicious (except for the desserts, perhaps…excuse our honesty).

Mr. Farmer also offers a complimentary water bar for all customers, with four different flavors of infused water. Besides their amazing salads and drinks, Mr. Farmer is remarkable for its relaxing and trendy atmosphere. Their modern interior and open courtyard will allow you to enjoy your healthy meal surrounded by a green oasis in the middle of the city. The wines are also recommended here. We Are The Farm (Ebisu)

We are the Farm is a farm-to-table eatery with a casual and comfortable atmosphere. While the name implies that it’s leaning toward a vegetarian restaurant, it is actually an organic diner with cuisine featuring everything, from kale and beets to savory beef. This restaurant is run by the All Farm group, which manages two farms and several other eateries across the city.

We are The Farm offers a variety of seasonal specialties, inspired by the harvest at a particular time of the year, and their menu includes kale beer, kale salad, cheese appetizer and duck meat – to name just a few. Their unique kale salad is definitely a must-try as it is probably the best one in town.

At lunchtime, dig into the restaurant’s countless yummy vegetables at their all-you-can-eat buffet, while at dinner you can take it a bit slower and enjoy a selection of good and healthy meat. Be warned, though: this is a popular spot, so make sure you book your table in advance (especially on weekends).
