Culture, Fashion, And Fun In The City
Getting into the latter half of September, the temperatures are lower, the days are shorter and the change of seasons is finally hitting us, perhaps making us a tad more tired than usual. Or not? Either way, this is a long weekend, which means getting plenty of well-deserved rest and catching up on events in the city. The biggest hit this weekend is the much-anticipated annual Fashion's Night Out, but there are other options too just in case you prefer not to be in the spotlight for a change.
In The Spotlight
Vogue Fashion's Night Out 2018
Fashionistas from all around Tokyo gather out every year to attend this massive one night-limited Japan franchise of the global event by Vogue. Aimed to celebrate fashion, participating stores in the Omotesando, Aoyama, and Harajuku area will wow the crowd with unique sales, giveaways, and special events. Special attendance by key Japanese celebrities, including model Ai Tominaga, Rola and everyone's favorite comedian-turned-fashionista Naomi Watanabe, is also on the agenda. This year marks the 10th anniversary of FNO, so expect the event to be at least 10 times larger. (And the crowds, too, btw!)

Musical: My Fair Lady
Sayaka Kanda, the daughter of Japan's beloved Showa era idol Seiko Matsuda, will be wearing the hats of Eliza Doolittle in this Japanese adaptation of the famous Broadway musical. A favorite story that never gets old, this one is a must-see for anyone who needs a bit of a motivation boost and a few extra laughs in their life right now.

The Lagerphones: 4th Japan Tour
Hailing from Melbourne, jazz band The Lagerphones have built a significant fan base in their hometown, but quite interestingly (for a foreign indie band), their second largest fanbase is based here in Tokyo. Having toured Japan three times already, the party crew is back again, stopping in Tokyo, then Osaka, and again in Tokyo to promote their new, Japan-inspired album "ATARA-CD." Their shows are mostly free and they're cool and genki, so if you have an hour or two to spare, come see them live!

Held annually at the Yokota Base, the Japanese-American Friendship Festival will be held this weekend to celebrate hopes for peace and prosperity of both countries for years to come. Charity Event: An Evening With Icons of the Music World
Marvel at photographs of some of the greatest rock and jazz musicians in history — including David Bowie, Miles Davis, John Lennon, and Jimmy Page — while you support Refugees International Japan (RIJ). Photographers James Fortune and David Spindel have donated some of their photographs for auction, and all proceeds will benefit RIJ, which offers people displaced by conflict the opportunity to regain their independence.

Yokohama Bread Festival
If you love the smell of freshly baked bread, you have to attend Yokohama’s Pan no Fest (Bread Festival) — the largest of its kind in Japan with over 80 bakeries from across the nation selling warm, freshly-baked bread. The festival takes places at the famous Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and it's perfect for anyone into food, cooking and creative bread chunks.
