Machine Washable Cashmere at Kit and Ace Pop-Up Shop
Yep, you read that right. Machine. Washable. Cashmere. Not only is it easy to care for, but Kit and Ace's signature "technical cashmere" is lightweight, stretchy, and deliciously soft. And now, for the first time, it's available in Tokyo at the brand's newly opened pop-up shop near Nakameguro station.
Located right along the Meguro River in what is normally used as a photography studio, the Kit and Ace store is surprisingly spacious for a pop-up, with high ceilings and simple white walls. These are decorated with whimsical, cartoon-like ironwork pieces by artist Minori Imai, and accented by shiny copper clothing racks and hanging lights. Near the entrance to the space is the brand’s signature table, which can be found in every one of its stores and is used for various events throughout the week.
But as beautifully minimal as the store is, the real attraction here are the clothes. Aimed at the creative class and those with an active or commuter lifestyle, the technical cashmere pieces can easily go from day to night, weekday to weekend. Elegant yet comfortable enough to live in, they are perfect for traveling and wear very well over time. They are also beautifully cut and constructed, with subtle darts or seams at the back of both women’s and men’s tops providing a more refined shape than you would expect from your average t-shirt.
In addition to jersey tops and dresses in a wide array of styles, Kit and Ace also sells blouses and shirts, blankets that double as shawls, gossamer thin scarves, trousers for him and her, warm yet stylish coats, and the most sumptuous 100 percent cashmere socks. Everything is done in timeless, mostly neutral tones, with a few pops of color on scarves and striped tops.
The Nakameguro pop-up shop will be open until next March, but don’t fret: the brand has plans to open permanent stores across the city starting in the spring. And until then, if there’s something you love that you can’t find in the pop-up, you can always order it online. International shipping and returns are free, so you have nothing to lose.
