Support To The Top: Join TELL’s Tokyo Tower Climb Event
And The Savvy Team Will Also Be There!
This September, join the Savvy Team at the most exciting Tokyo fundraising event on the year!
This upcoming September 10, Tokyo’s largest lifeline organization for Japan’s international community, TELL, is organizing the exciting endurance challenge of climbing Tokyo Tower on foot (we’re talking 600 steps) together with the Tokyo community toward the goal of providing better mental care support for people in need.
Individuals, team and corporate teams will gather at Tokyo Tower on that day from early in the morning and climb to the top to show their support for the organization’s efforts to prevent suicide and make their lifeline open 24/7. By joining this event, you will be contributing to raising funds for TELL and for spreading awareness of the existing stigmas against mental problems.
The Fight Against Suicide
The event takes place on World Suicide Prevention Day. People all around the globe will be walking, marching or running to take a step to remove stigmas around mental health through various events. Every year, more than 800,000 people die by suicide around the world, and the number of those who have attempted it — or have thought about it — goes beyond one’s ability to measure.
In Japan, though declining in recent years, in 2016, a total of 21,897 people took their own lives. TELL, a not-for-profit organization with over 40 years of experience of providing world-class, effective support and English counseling services for mental healthcare and suicide prevention to Japan’s international community, believes that “the key to prevention is recognizing the warning signs and risk factors and knowing how to help.” TELL receives approximately 6,000 calls a year from across Japan, 55% of which are from English-speaking Japanese citizens and 45% are from foreign nationals.
Join The Event
You can join the event individually, as a team with friends and family, or as a corporate team. Register from TELL’s page and help raise funds that would benefit TELL’s activities. All proceeds from this event (including registration fees and on the day donations) will go toward supporting the work of TELL.
What’s in for you? A great way to spend your Sunday, good exercise, cross off a major challenge on your bucket list (c’mon, you can’t usually climb the Tower on foot), and the gift of knowing that you’re doing something good for the community. That, plus a completion certificate — and a few memorable shots on Tokyo Tower’s rooftop!
Support The Savvy Team
We wouldn’t miss it for a thing, so the Savvy Tokyo team will be climbing with everyone else to support TELL’s clause.
Our team of four: Ally (Savvy Tokyo’s editor), Rebecca (Savvy Tokyo’s PR-incess), Seiya (Savvy Tokyo’s money magician), and David (Savvy Tokyo’s design guru) will be representing everyone at Savvy Tokyo and our company GPlus Media’s belief that we need to step out of our comfort zones and reach out to each other more. Though this may not be a magical cure for people with grave problems, we believe that a kind word and support when in need, can help people go through rough times. We believe it’s time to get together and step forward toward creating a safer city for everyone who needs help. Help us support this cause by donating to our team or cheering up for us on the day of the event!
