This Week(End): Tokyo Area Events For March 16-17
Festivals, Family Events, And Fun In The City
Before the city turns pink with sakura blossoms, it's time to go green — because much of what's happening this weekend is taking place out in the city. From St. Patrick's Day celebrations to family events and music in the park, this weekend is all about celebrating nature and the roots of our existence and happiness. Enjoy!
Remembering the Tohoku Earthquake
An Evening of Shomyo Jazz
Jazz quintet Super Red Band will be joining the Buddhist priests of Takahata Fudo-son and other nearby temples to hold a charity concert benefiting areas impacted by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. The concert’s setlist will feature a fusion of modern jazz and shomyo, a millennium old style of lyrical chanting used in Buddhist prayers for the living and departed. The theme of the unique combination is finding peace in the past and fun in the future. A bit far from central Tokyo but definitely worth the visit!
