Before we know it it's already February, and with it comes the season of love — or, put it in a Japanese perspective — chocolate. Start the month with a few events celebrating romance, flowers and sweets — for there are plenty of them on this week's agenda. And let's also not forget about Setsubun, the bean-throwing, scare-evil-away event marking the early beginning of Spring — this week! Happy February, y'all!

Flowers By Naked
Creative group Naked is back in style for a yet another time, and this month's topic is art, technology and flowers fusion. Enjoy projection mapping, lit-up cherry blossom, as well as special drinks and food using green tea and cherry blossoms. A perfect event for the eyes and stomach alike.

Scare Evil Away
Setsubun Festival At Zojoji Temple
Join celebrities, politicians and sumo wrestlers at the annual bean-throwing “Setsubun” festival at Zojoji Temple, one of the largest such events in Tokyo. Setsubun, meaning the day before the first day of spring, is one of the most unique Japanese traditions, when people throw away beans toward demons to scare them away and bring good luck. Thousands of people join this event and the battle for bean catch is fierce, so come well armed.

Naritasan Setsubun Festival
Another major Setsubun event, the bean-throwing day at Naritasan Temple attracts around 40 thousand visitors every year. Many celebrities and athletes participate in the ceremony, which sets fire to an intense competition over the bean packages. This year, sumo wrestlers including the new Yokozuna Kisenosato and actors from NHK's morning drama Naotora will be participating — don't miss it.
