This Weekend: Tokyo Area Events for September 3-4
Anniversary Events, Festivals and Fun in the City
The summer vacation is over and with school (and work) now officially back on track, traveling out of town is perhaps not on many Tokyoites' agenda. Well, that's good news, because this weekend is all about taking it slow in Tokyo. Goldfish Art
Art Aquarium 10th Anniversary
This two-month-long annual event combines two unique aspects of Japanese culture: the nostalgia of Edo and the love of "kingyo" (goldfish) as a symbol of summer. There will be various attractions, including Nihonbashi cruises, goldfish scooping, traditional stalls and of course various kingyo-inspired snacks and treats. But the highlight is the display of the "Super Oiran" aquarium, the biggest goldfish bowl in the world, which is also home to some 3,000 fish — we imagine it's quite a nice life they have in there.
