Hino Shinsengumi Festival

Tokyoites and history buffs will gather in Hino City this weekend to celebrate Japan’s samurai past at the popular 22nd Annual Hino Shinsengumi Festival. Festivities will open with the Shinsengumi Contest on the afternoon of Saturday, May 11th. Samurai impersonators from around the country will compete for the chance to embody famous Shinsengumi leaders in the festival’s main event, Sunday’s Shinsengumi Parade, when several hundred people dressed as Shinsengumi members will parade past historically relevant locations in Hino. A must see festival if you're into Japanese history!

Nagi Yoshida is a young Japanese photographer who specializes in capturing the rare sights of ethnic minorities in Africa and other parts of the world. Already in the spotlight in Japan, Yoshida's colorful photos and unique angle of capturing the unknown is rapidly winning her popularity abroad, as well. This special exhibition focuses on her first best compilation photo book "Heroes" in addition to introducing around 20 new works. Yoshida will also be present at the event on May 11 from 3 p.m.
