Fall Makeup Trends from Japan’s Top Brands
From drugstore to department store brands, the best cosmetics lines in Japan will begin releasing their fall color collections this month, so it's time to start planning your look for the coming season. From sumptuous chocolate shades to cool blue and purple shadows and lush, peachy lip glosses, there is something to get everyone excited about the cooler weather on the horizon.
Cle de Peau Beauté 2015 Fall Collection
This Shiseido brand is known in Japan and abroad not only for its high-end skincare products, but also for its richly pigmented makeup collections. For the autumn color collection, creative director Lucia Pieroni was inspired by the mysterious and captivating beauty of Venice. The product selection is centered around three eye shadow palettes (¥5,400 each for a refill; ¥2,700 for a case) with colors ranging from cool blues to shimmering golds, all inspired by the way light dances on the surface of the water surrounding Venice. There are also ten lip color shades (¥3,780 each for a refill; ¥1,620 for a tube) and five cheek palettes (¥4,860 each for a refill; ¥2,700 for a case). The collection goes on sale at Cle de Peau Beauté counters across Japan from this Friday, August 21.
Maquillage 2015 Fall Collection
Also a Shiseido brand, Maquillage took a distinctly different route with its autumn colors. Aimed at women who want to look beautiful without seeming like they’re trying too hard, the collection includes a range of subtle, natural shades for eyes and lips. There are five new eye shadow palettes (¥3,240 each) with colors like light green, lavender and gold designed to allow customers to create a more toned-down version of the smokey eye, which the brand is calling “smokey glow.” Each palette also includes a cream eyeliner in a complementary shade and a specialized applicator. A range of eyebrow pencils (¥972 to ¥1,296) in natural tones and peachy lipsticks and glosses (¥2,484 to ¥3,240) round out the collection. Look for it at drugstores across the country from Friday, August 21.
Lunasol 2015 Fall Collection
Fine chocolates were the inspiration for this Kanebo brand’s autumn color collection, which aims to emulate not only the look, but also the texture and aroma of these delectable sweets. Three eye shadow quads (¥5,400 each) offer a range of brown shades, from shimmery beiges to matte caramels and of course rich chocolate hues. Varying textures allow for nuanced effects of depth and dimension. Three eye shadow duos (¥3,780 each) are also available, each with one chocolate shade and another inspired by pistachios, raspberries or oranges. A total of nine new lip colors (¥3,024 to ¥3,240 each) range from soft pinky beiges to browns, with limited-edition shades carrying the scent of bittersweet chocolate and glosses designed with a texture to mimic that of warm, melted chocolate. The collection goes on sale at department stores across Japan from Friday, August 21.
Cle de Peau Beaté 2015 Holiday Collection
Cle de Peau will take the Venetian theme even further with its holiday collection, which is due to hit stores on Saturday, November 21. Inspired by the masked balls of Venice’s Carnival, the collection features some beautiful packaging created by jewelry designer Joji Kojima. The key product is a set that includes a limited-edition eye shadow quad, a deep red lipstick and a burgandy mascara (¥16,200). Also available will be a body powder (¥10,800), a trio of nail enamels in dark red, black gold and metallic silver (¥6,480), and a limited-release version of the brand’s popular skin serum (¥27,000).
