Since it opened in February 2011, Super A Market has proven to be a consistent favorite on the Aoyama shopping scene, due largely to its eclectic mix of labels and styles, as well as its simple, easy-to-browse layout. The store's concept is “fun with clothes,” but clothes aren’t the only things on offer here.

The store is under the umbrella of conservative modern Japanese fashion brand Tomorrowland, and is designed in its signature simplistic aesthetic. However, the items on offer are surprisingly colorful. From Balenciaga knits and Dries Van Noten sequined jackets to handmade buttons and rolls of ribbon, Super A Market’s selection is both fashion-forward and unique.

The second floor consists of both a café/bar space and floor-to-ceiling, pharmacy-like displays of perfumes, candles, cosmetics and Bedouin blankets, which create an intriguing mix of the modern and the traditional. Totes made of recycled plastic shopping bags are displayed alongside skirts and sandals from luxury European brands, giving new meaning to the word “supermarket.”

While Super A Market does not have a huge offering, it does have some discerning buyers who choose items you may not be able to find elsewhere. If you happen to be in the area, it’s definitely worth a stop in.
