Kuoze: Japan Local Food Festival

One of the largest food fairs in Japan, Kuozei (which roughly translates as “Let’s eat!”) is a paradise for all Japanese cuisine fans. With over 60 booths representing local nibbles from Hokkaido to Okinawa and all regions in between, this is the ultimate venue for anyone who’s into tasting unique Japanese food and drinks. Be warned though: the queues will be long!

Though not as large as cherry blossom festivals in Ueno and other parks in the city, and despite the sakura being almost gone for this season, the annual Nakano Street Sakura Festival is still very much worth visiting. There will be endless food booths, karaoke contests, taiko drum performances, live concerts and dances, a parade and so much more.

Showa Kinen Park Flower Festival

Tachikawa's Showa Memorial Park is a heaven for family outings: there's flower viewing, picnicking, playing sports, barbecuing, water play, and so much more. The park is currently hosting its annual Flower Festival, which includes hundreds of hectares of beautiful spring flowers of all colors and kinds. This weekend, enjoy the last sights of sakura in bloom — there are 1,500 cherry trees of some 30 kinds for your delight — and tulips too! A perfect venue to get away from the crowds of Tokyo and enjoy a day in the park!

Sharaku's Eye, Utamaro in Love: Best of Ukiyoe Collection

Sharaku Toshusai and Utamaro Kitagawa, two of the greatest ukiyoe painters from late Edo period Japan, continue to entertain the world to date: Sharaku with his comical depiction of actors and Utamaro with his depictions of beautiful women and Yoshiwara, Tokyo's then-red districts. The exhibition, which features 30-plus pieces and related documents, some of which displayed for the first time — is held in commemoration of the museum's reopening in April.
