Say Hello to Spring
As February comes to a close, spring is just around the corner. With plum blossoms blooming much earlier this year, don't forget to check out the various festivals held in their honor. For Tokyo area events there's the Bunkyo Plum Festival near Ueno and in Chiba Prefecture there's the Sawara Hinabune Festival. Have a good week ahead!

Springing Into The Season
Sawara Hinabune Spring Festival 2024
During the festival, Hina dolls from each family in town are display on storefronts with some dating all the way back to Edo and Meiji periods. The festival highlight is a parade on the Ono River with couples dressed in traditional Hina costumes alongside musicians playing traditional Japanese court music (gagaku).

Farmers and Kids Festa 2024

Daruma Doll Fair
Jindaiji Temple in Chofu will be hosting one of the biggest daruma doll markets in Japan with over 300 stalls selling the iconic red and round traditional good luck figures. The unique scenery featuring dolls scattered across the temple's grounds and in front of its gates is a must-see event for visitors and residents alike. Experience this traditional Japanese festival that dates back to the Edo period.

Scent Of Spring
Bunkyo Plum Festival
Before the sakura season kicks in, it's time to enjoy the plums and there's no better place to do so than at the Yushima Tenmangu Shrine in Tokyo's Bunkyo ward. The approximately 300 plum trees are just starting to bloom, inviting visitors for a pleasant sight and scent. There will be also various performances, including a karaoke competition, traditional Japanese dances, shamisen and of course, lots of food stalls!
