The holidays are over, but the festive spirit doesn’t have to end quite yet. With most department stores in Japan launching major new year’s sales until about mid-January, combined with our subconscious desire to start fresh and clean, the beginning of the new year is THE best time to splurge on new outfits for yourself and the family. Home to exclusive high-end brands from all over the world and all things trendy, Roppongi Hills is a place we wish we could afford to go shopping at more often than we actually can. But this time around, most of its stores — around 65 to be more precise — are offering discounts of up to 70% and that includes women’s and men’s wear, lifestyle and homeware, kids’ wear and toys and more. From Adidas, Burberry, Diesel, to Kate Spade—the temptation is real and the discounts are great.

Takashimaya is best at providing something for everyone, which is exactly why clearance sale is a must go to get the best buys for a good price. The Nihonbashi branch has a total of nine floors, with the sale period differing depending on the section. A good spot if you’re looking for slightly more sophisticated women’s and men’s wear and shoes, baby items and gifts, maternity wear, home decor and formal wear.

Where: 2-4-1 Nihombashi, Chuo-ku
Sale: Until Jan. 13th, 15th or until sold out (depending on each section)

4. Ginza Six Winter Sale

Since its opening in April 2017 as the largest ever shopping complex in the Ginza area, Ginza Six has worked hard to maintain its status as the “newest luxurious fashion destination” in Tokyo. Rightly so, it is home to 241 shops and restaurants, has its own rooftop garden (with a mini shrine!) and even a Noh-theater. And now, the complex is opening its doors to customers that don’t necessarily have a few hundred man to spend on fashion. Nearly 100 shops are offering discounts of up to 50% off until January 20th, covering all areas of fashion, beauty, cosmetics, food, jewelry and lifestyle goods.

Where: 6-10-1 Ginza, Chuo-ku

5. Shibuya 109 Winter Sale

The iconic youth fashion department store likes to go bold when it comes to special events and this New Year’s sale is no exception. The sale goes on at other times too, though the discounts are less generous. The complex has also partnered with Japanese and South Korean idols to visit 109 during the sale offering visitors a few photo ops and “a chance to meet a handsome man” as it says on their website. We’ll take their word for it.
